Trekking adventure in the desert of Morocco, M’hamid in Zagora

Day 1: Arrival day for desert trekking

We leave Marrakech and cross the High Atlas via the Tichka Pass at 2260m to reach the Zagora desert.

Day 2 : Desert Trek: Ras Nhal – Sidi Naji

We head south and cross the Oued Draa and the palm grove of Ras Nhal to reach a plateau in the Moroccan desert. We admire the view before arriving at Sidi Naji, an old ruined village where we eat a picnic prepared by our cook. Another hour’s walk in the afternoon to reach the beautiful dunes of the same name. Overnight stay in a tent. 5-hour’s hike. Easy level.

Day 3: Sidi Naji – Trek the Erg Zehar

We leave the bivouac of Sidi Naji in the direction of the biggest dunes of the Draa Valley, magnificent scenery! At the end of the day, we will trek the Zahar dune and see an unforgettable sunset. A 5-hour hike. It’s not that hard level.   

Day 4: Erg Zahar – Trek the Erg Ait Unir

After breakfast, we will set off to the northeast on a route characterized by very desolate landscapes with many tamaris trees. Overnight in a tent in the big dunes of Erg Ait Unir. A 5-hour trek. Easy level.

Day 5: Trek: Erg Ait Unir – Ras n’khal

 After breakfast, we continue our trek across the Moroccan desert, heading east through the dunes of Erg Ait Unir and the Tamaris trees. Lush desert scenery awaits us at this stage. Shortly before reaching the top of the pass, we will stop for lunch under the beautiful palm trees of Ras N’khal. A 5-hour trek. Easy level.   

Day 6: Ras N’Khal – M’hamid – Agdaz – Marrakech (last day of the desert trek)

After breakfast, we have one last hour of walking, and then we return to Marrakech by car through the Tagnit Zagora-Agdez-Tichka pass. A 7-hour drive and about a 1-hour walk.
