1 Day journey within the Medina of Fes
Spend one day in the Medina of Fes
Guided tour of the Medina of Fes. Take a guided tour of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Medina of Fez, a labyrinth of 9,600 towers and winding alleys, the largest pedestrianized area in the world. Here, you will first visit Cefalan Square, where you can see (and hear) the metalworkers who traditionally trade in copper, brass, and tin. Through winding corridors, head to the famous tannery and then on to Al-Qarawiyyin University, the oldest in the world and of great importance to Islam. It has been magnificently decorated and recently restored to its former glory. Then head to Attarine Souk, with its exotic, fresh-smelling spices and mountains of vegetables, the elegantly decorated Attarine Medersa, and Nejjarine Square, with its beautiful blue and white Mozarab fountain and caravanserai museum. Visit the walls of the Medina of Fez. A guided tour of the city walls of Fez in an air-conditioned car will take you to see the old walls and many beautiful bastions. Climb the South Tower, a fortress built by the French on the hill above the medina, for stunning views of the old city and its surroundings. You will also visit the pottery factory, where you will see the potters at work and watch pottery being made in the pottery kilns. Here you can also see traditional blue and white Fassi pottery and samples of different colors at affordable prices. Then there is Dar el Makhzen, the royal palace of Fez, with its impressive seven huge bronze doors. These gates are decorated with blue tiles symbolizing Fez and green tiles symbolizing Islam. At the end of your Fez tour, you will be dropped at your accommodation.
