Desert Trip Fes to Marrakech, Itinerary:

Day 1: Fes – Middle Atlas Mountains – The Sahara Desert

After breakfast in your hotel at Fes city, our guide will pick you up from your hotel or riad at 7 am to start up the amazing tour that will begin in Fes driving towards the Sahara desert. We will pass through the High Atlas Mountains toward the most modern and clean city in Morocco named Ifran, which was built by the French in the 1930s. It attracts many visitors with its waterfalls, green nature, and European character they may come skiing because of its high altitude at 1665 meters or they may come to sniping. Continuing the desert trip of Fes to Marrakech via the big Cedar forest, the largest woods in Morocco at the Middle Atlas, for about 89km south of the city of Fez driving towards Midelt which is situated on the foothills of the eastern part of the High Atlas Mountains. From the vast plateau, we start passing those tough mountains, which are still established by a big Berber community moving to the peaceful Berber town of Azrou, “The Rock” in the local Berber dialect, where the famous Barbary Apes, actually macaque monkeys, will be eager to share your lunch, in the heart of their natural habitat.

Then continuing our drive along the monstrous Tiz Ntalghamt pass and the Ziz Gorge, amused by the view of the High Atlas Mountains that are said to hold up the sky, winding your way through forested peaks, twisting mountain streams and gushing springs and spectacular, jagged walls of rock viewing Tafilalt Oasis until we reach the city of Errachidia where you will watch colossal palm trees and a location perfect for building up an extensive variety of natural item trees and vegetables with a one of a kind microclimate. Moreover, we will pass through the rich Ziz Valley, stopping at various stations to relish the view and take pictures en route to Erfoud and Rissani; ERFOUD the capital city of fossils. Heading up south to the red-colored sand sea dunes of Erg Chebbi at Merzouga massive, up to 50 meters via, RISSANI, Sijilmassa once upon a time the hometown of the Alaouist dynasty, before continuing the way to Merzouga that its huge sand dunes appearing from the horizon.

By arriving, we will be welcomed by a glass of mint tea followed by one hour and a half of riding on a camel guided by a specialist camel’s man into the breathtaking sunset as you travel through the shifting sands before you arrive at a traditional Berber desert encampment on the desert to spend a wonderful night enjoying these dramatic dunes, wonderful skies, and stars at night, you may want to experience Berber GNAWA music and playing drums with them while rounding campfire at that night dinner will be served in the campsite under the starry sky that you feel you could almost reach out and touch.

 

Day 2: Desert Dawn – High Atlas Mountains – Marrakech

In the early morning, our guide will aid you to ride on camels guided by a specialist in order to reach the highest sand dunes to experience a memorable sunrise. A moment that is saved in our visitor’s memories when seeing a round of gold sun rising between waves of sand colorizing Merzouga with golden yellow before coming back to your hotel riding your camels for breakfast, you cannot fail to notice the shifting and changing of the shadows cast by the dunes, lengthening and shrinking as the day progresses. Following breakfast, the voyage towards Marrakech begins with a drive through the 300-meter-deep canyon of the Todgha Gorges which are situated ahead of the central high Atlas Mountains around the pretty village of Tinghir where you will see the contrasting landscapes take you back to Colorado, with its high plateau, its gorges, and great canyons, and it peaks sometimes fractured by erosion. Todgha Gorges are natural monuments in the southeastern that were crafted by Todgha Valley and Dades Valley across thousands of years

We will head up to the wonderful preserved walled fortress or Kasbah of Taourirt diverted in the 17th century, a UNESCO world heritage site, very traditionally Moroccan in its architecture and which you will be free to explore. Venturing onward through the High Atlas along the twisting, winding, and narrow roads of the Tizin’Tichka pass, 2,260 meters above sea level, as this way your journey ends in the Paris of Morocco as Winston Churchill described where you would be dropped off at your riad or hotel.
